Deepawali is one of the biggest festivals celebrated by people of Hindu religion all over the world. It is also called the “Festival of Lights”. The festival is celebrated for five days and the third day which falls on new moon day is the main day of Deepawali. We celebrate this festival, in memory of celebration following victory of good over evil. It is believed that Lord Ram returned to his kingdom after defeating demon king Ravana during this time. People decorate their houses with colorful bright lights, prepare delicious foods and sweets, wear beautiful clothes and jewelries and light fireworks. Children have lot of fun with nice food and fireworks. This year Deepawali is on Saturday the 17th of October and I will be celebrating it with my family and friends in my new home in Canada. I’m so excited!

Hi Priya,
I am a teacher at another school in Courtenay. I know Ms. Smith. She taught me about Edublog. I am very interested in Diwali. Are there any other Hindu celebrations you can tell me about?
